WD Elem SE Not recognised on desktop - fatal error

I have just purchased the portable WD Elements SE 4tb and trying to initialize it to my desktop operating on Windows 10.
I have followed all instructions (I think) and when trying with GTB it says ‘the disk is not convertible because the size is less than the minimum size required for GPT disks.’ When trying via MBR it says ’ the request failed due to a fatal device hardware error.’ So I am stuck.

I would be most grateful if someone could advise what to do. Is the 4tb to big perhaps?

Hi fran1,

It appears that your WD Element SE is not functional and needs to be replaced under warranty. If it has been less than 30 days since the product was purchased, it may be faster to return it to the place of purchase.

However, you may use below link to apply for a replacement with RMA department.
