I am not too saavy but I connected and downloaded, lights are on but how do I know if fikes on my laptop downloaded?

You said it is connected, how? Is it by USB or Ethernet? Do you have it showing as a USB drive?
If you use Auto Play do you get a popup asking what you want to do with it when you connect it? If you click that the image shown below should come up and you should be able to select, Open folder to view files.
