WD Easystore not recognized by windows OR WD apps

My WD 1tb easystore external hardrive has never been recognized by my windows laptop.I’ve checked device and disk management but it has never shown up there or anywhere else on my laptop. The hardrive light turns on when it’s plugged into my laptop usb port but no other activity is noticed. I have been trying to figure this out on and off for months and have never been able to configure it. I just learned about all of the WD apps like security and dashboard and downloaded them, but the hardrive is still not even recognized by these. Does anyone have any other tips on how to configure this? Or alternatively any tips on extracting my iphone photos and videos directly to the hardrive, but still having access to view them through the hardrive if deleted from the phone after extraction.
