WD Anywhere Backup - Error 1327 (Resolved)

I’m posting this incase someone has a similar issue in the future.

When I tried to install the WD Anywhere Backup software that came with my ShareSpace NAS, I got the following error:

Error 1327:  Invalid Drive Z

This error was being caused by several folders that I had mapped to the Z: drive on my computer, which was my network mapped drive to the NAS.

To resolve the issue, I did the following:

  1. Ran regedit from the command prompt
  2. Navigated to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/User Shell Folders
  3. Deleted any folder paths that started with “Z:”

That seemed to do the trick.

Thanks for the information. I’ve seen that issue too when using any network drive (not necessarily a WD or a Sharespace) that uses a drive letter that previously was assigned to another device. I suspect it is a bug in Windows, although I don’t have the time to track it down and confirm.
