View stored media through VLC on my Apple TV

I am wondering if anybody else has had issues viewing stored media on the western digital my cloud home through VLC. I spent hours on the phone with tech support trying to get a connection to Plex. After the connection was made, I was done with tech-support. Not long after, the connection stopped. I kept getting the message that my WD was not online. I verified it was, and I could no longer get anything to connect. I had seen some videos that people were using VLC to view their saved media. I’m wondering how I can get my WD to connect with VLC. This has been a long and frustrating experience. When I pull up VLC on my Apple TV, it asks to connect to server my cloud-GL4N2C. It’s asking for the username and password, port and work group. I don’t know what any of that is and I don’t know where to find it out. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
