Using MD Mu Cloud as backup for WD My Cloud Home

Hello. I have a WD MyCloud not upgradable to OS 5, and also a WD My Cloud Home. I used the My Cloud Home device as a backup to the My Cloud Home using FreeFileSync. With the ending of the remote access for WD My Cloud, will this continue to work? If not, how can I access the WD My Cloud home? I have it connected to the router. Thank you.

If both devices are on the same local network and the backup/copying is happening across the local network then things will continue to work just as they do now. In case you’ve missed the following information…

My Cloud OS3 End of Service

Q: Will my device stop working if I can’t upgrade to My Cloud OS 5? Will I lose access to my data?
A: Once the services have been shut down, you will still be able to access the device on a local network. However, access through the My Cloud OS 3 mobile app or web app will not be possible. Email notifications also won’t be delivered. Devices that have auto-update enabled will receive a final firmware update to disable remote access and outbound traffic to cloud services. Then, support will end and you’ll have to use the local network to access the device.

Thank you very much for your help. But how exactly do I do that? I have the WD mycloud connected to the router, but I can’t see it in windows when I’m connected to the wi-fi network. Do I have to connect the wdmycloud to my pc with a cable?

You have to figure out why your computer cannot access the My Cloud. Is the front LED of the My Cloud blue? Can you access the My Cloud Dashboard? Can you access the My Cloud by it’s IP address in Windows file Explorer? If using Windows 10, have you enabled SMB1.0 in the Windows option settings? If using Windows 10, have you set your Network Profile to Private?

One may need to perform a 4 second or 40 second reset to fix certain My Cloud issues.

Ok, I will try that. Thank you.
