User access to external Hard drive on USB rear ports

I recently purchased an EX4100 and I love it! On the rear USB ports, I have two external hard drives connected. When I click on the button to grant access for “admin” user to full access, it switches back to access denied once I leave the “share” and/or “user” tabs. I’m not sure if it’s because they’re connected externally(which it shouldn’t matter). In my “share” settings, I’ve selected for both drives not to be public. However, once I switch them to “public” access, I have no issues with full access.

Can anyone give me some advice on where I can start to resolve this?? My goal is to have both drives connected permanently, and restrict public access…
