Has anyone tried to upgrade the MBLD to the latest debian OS (squeeze) completely? Is it wise to do so or will there be trouble, i.e. with hardware related core packages / kernel that were customized from WD?

Well, that’s fine. If I need warranty, I can still reset it to the latest “firmware” ;-).
The most important thing to know is, whether there are any .deb packages that have been patched/customized by WD in order to make the hardware working. Obviously those packages should not be upgraded blindly to their standard debian counterparts… and it is important to take care of them.
But well, maybe the question is too technical for this forum.
