I would like to password protect my My Book drive using the WD software, however because my Windows system image is routinely backed up on my external drive; I may need to access the external drive using a system repair disc to restore my image due to HDD failure. If the drive is locked, will I have the ability to unlock the drive to restore the image onto a new HDD using the repair/bootable disc? I would hate to back up my drive onto a disc that I would not have access to when needed.
Hi, you will be able to unlock it with a separate computer and temporally removed the password, once you are done with the recovery you can set your security again. In the event that you don’t have a second computer to unlock and remove the password, you will not gain access to the drive,
