Dear Folks,

Unable to play some mkv files which play well with VLC. I have tried mkvmerge   etc and no luck.

any one can help ?

Post the MEDIAINFO for one of the files.

Look into this post:

Dear Friend ,

I have tried with MWDdclean , the file is saved , but doesn’t work on WD elements Play. WD says , the format is not supported , refer user manual. Tried mkvmerge same result. Any other way of doing it ?

As Tony already said, why don’t you post the MEDIAINFO for one of the files ?

How do I get the media info from an mkv File ?.. Please guide me …

Download and install Mediainfo:

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mediainfo/MediaInfo_GUI_0.7.43_Windows_i386.exe

Use it on your mkv to get info from it (e.g. view/text and then copy paste it here).

Thanks for the help

If you ran mkWDclean against the file, it didn’t work…

You are doing something wrong mate,I have to refer you again to my previous post:

http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-Elements-Play/MKV-movie-not-playing-on-play/td-p/140734

What I did now is actually the same as before:

  1. I downloaded    Rob-B-Hood.Hindi.Dubbed.720p.Bluray.DjVikas.mkv which doesn’t play due to same reason (header compression)

  2. I used mkvmerge with this command line:

mkvmerge -o output.mkv --compression -1:none Rob-B-Hood.Hindi.Dubbed.720p.Bluray.DjVikas.mkv

File output.mkv is now perfectly playable.
