Two EX2100 or One EX4100?

I’ve been thinking about a NAS for some time as a solution to both file sharing and backup. I would prefer each function to be performed by its own device as one will get thrashed (sharing) and the other will mostly be idle (backup).

Two EX2100s side by side should do the job, but a single EX4100 would be neater (and cheaper). It isn’t clear from WD’s material if a 4100 can be made to behave like two 2100s.

I am not a tech geek so plain-english answers would be appreciated !

Hi, if you go with the EX4100 you can create 2 different volumes and use them separate, however if the drive is working on streaming and doing a backup, all will be handled by the same CPU and interface.
