Trouble getting started with My Passport Elite on my Powerbook G4

Hello,

I bought a 500 GB My Passport Elite to use to back up by PowerBook G4.  When I bought it from Best Buy (new), I was told that additional formatting would be required to use it with my Mac.  There are no instructions inside about how to reformat, and I’m not really sure what that even means.  When I connect the hard drive to my computer via USB,  the hard drive starts making a clicking and spinning sound.  There is nothing that pops up on my desktop or anything.

I am not really sure what to do - I thought this would be very simple. Any suggestions are welcome.

Yes, you need to re-format it with Mac disk utility.
