I’m saving files from all the computers that I have and use in one place, so I can sort, organize and then have them backed up. I transferred files onto MyPassport drive from a PC laptop. Then realized I could not transfer files to MyPassport from my MacBookPro until I reformatted the drive. I got part way through the instructions online, but I cannot seem to select (Master Boot Record) from the partition scheme options. I’m in need of assistance.

Which instructions are you following? The following article includes system-specific instructions. Depending on your operating system, you may need to completely destroy the hard drive’s partition in order to initialize the unit as MBR.
