'There's a problem with this drive'

I’m using a ‘My Passport’ Extl drive. When I plug it in to my laptop I get the following messages in sequence:
‘There is a problem with this drive. Scan the drive now and fix it’
I use Microsoft and get this message:
‘Repair this drive’
I activate the software to scan the drive but it finds no problem with it.
What I do know is that I losing data from three spreadsheets.
Any thoughts as to what’a wrong?

Run a diagnostic on the drive eg. CrystalDiskInfo, HD Tune etc and check the S.M.A.R.T. values

If you see errors like Reallocated Sector Count or Uncorrectable Sector Count etc

Then the drive is dying and the errors will only get worse over time.

Back up whatever data you can now before you eventually lose everything, and stop using the drive.

Thanks Joey,

I’ve purchased a new drive as this one is dying.
