Streaming media to a laptop remotely

Does anyone know if there is a way to stream media to a laptop remotely?

I asked WD pre-sales and they said the My Book World Edition would, and the I checked with Mionet and they said you can only download files and not stream the media.

I would like to find someway to stream media so when I am stuck in a hotel somewhere I can stream some of my movies to my laptop. I tried the download but it was going to take 4 hours so that isn’t any good.
