Short changed on storage

I just purchased an 8TB My Cloud Home. I plugged it in, created my account and downloaded the program for the computer. I haven’t even moved any files into it and it says I only have 7.07TB of space. It says its at 100% available. There are no files or folders. What could possibly be taking 12.5% of the space before I even use it? If that is how it is supposed to be, then I think they should give me back $38.38 haha. But seriously, I’m not tech savvy so any input will help.
