ShareSpace system dead

Hey guys,

Having an issue with a WD Sharespace basically the unit was dying a slow death…So i ended up formatting all 4 disks thinking i could pop them in an it should re-install the firmware etc…That was my bad left it sitting for a day the firmware re-install didn’t work tried the following so far.

As per  http://niksideas.blogspot.com.au/2012/01/wd-sharespace-nas-installing-new-hard.html Tried quick zero on 1 disk and no luck didn’t work even when left for 8 hours.

Tried a HDD from another unit a 1 TB quick zero hdd no luck…

Tried a full zero on a 2 TB disk placed in unit left for 8 hours and again no luck…

During all of this the HDD lights all appear amber with a the only blue light being the one with a tick (think it’s a clock)…

Any ideas on how to revive the unit?

Hi,

Im sorry but if you formatted all 4 drives of the Sharespace that means the Operating System was deleted. Unfortunately this is not recoverable and I recommend that you get the Sharespace replaced.

You may contact Western Digital for assistance in replacing your drive.

hi

if i -  formatted all 4 drives of the Sharespace that means the Operating System was deleted?

is the OS saved and worked on hard drives?

not on ROM???

How can i upgrade all 4 disks?

If i have corrupted ALL 4 drive?

What can i do?

Do you have any tool for restoring OS on new disk?

But

If i have one more Sharespace - and it works - can i restore first Sharespace somehow?

Both of you might want to have a look here-

I don’t know if it will help with all drives wiped, but with another WDSS available you might make it work.

PLEASE NOTE: Read the entire article before you try anything. The author went through a lot to succeed, and there are significant warnings. The most important, in my book, is that you should image your drives and work with the copies. This will give you an extra level of safety.

There may be other such accounts. This is the first one I found which seems to apply.

EDIT: There is substantial information on debricking a WDSS in the posts from this search-
