Setting up - taking forever to "check my device"


I just bought the My Cloud today (4tb) and am going through the steps to set it up.  I’m at the “Checking Your Device” stage and it has been doing this for at least twenty minutes showing no progress on the bar.  Is this normal or is there a reason it’s not working?
