"Same device selected as both Back up source and target

Very frustrating how non-user friendly this device is. (MyCloud EX4)
I spoke with customer support but no help?
Why they cant have come up with a dumbed down version to make it simple for the layman to use is beyond me.
Somehow I have done this and for the life of me cannot find a solution.
I googled it and searched this Forum but seems I am the first.
Here is the popup I’m getting.

“Same device selected as both Back up source and target
You have selected the same storage device as both a backup source and target. Your Data will not be protected BLA BLA BLA”

Help anyone the CS rep told me to read the 165 page manual.

Did you check after changing the backup source in backup software? And which software are you using for backup?

Thanks for responding
I uninstalled everything and am in the process of reformatting. (taking a long time)
I simply want to back up my data, not cloud service at this time just a simple back up.
What is the easiest procedure to transfer Data from my WD Book to this device?
Its running Raid 5.
I use the word “back up” but in fact I am using this device EX4 24TB to store and access my home movies and Plex movies.
