Routine power down?

Hi,

I have the WD My Book one TB that I use on a local network to backup a desktop and a laptop. It has been doing it’s job since 4/13/09. Today it failed. The backup program could not find the path. I couldn’t find it ether using Windows Explorer. I did the reset that did not help. I tried the power down button - No joy. Then I disconnected the power source, waited a few minuets , reconnected and now all is well! I normally leave the WD powered on all of the time.
My question:
Should I routinely power the unit down when I shut the computer down?

Hi,

It is not necessary to disconnect the drive that often.

You might want to make sure the drive is connected to a reliable power source.
