Every time I run WD Smartware (for my Win 10 system) I need to go through the setup procedure for the program (the Backup Source and Backup Target, Category or File, Continuous or Scheduled, etc). I would like to know why…if no changes have been made to the system since the previous time Smartware has been run, isn’t the source/target setup necessary only once?

You should try to uninstall the WD Smartware and install it again and check if the issue still persist.
