Removing the software from the WD My Passport Essential SE 1 TB USB3/2

I have just ordered one of these drives and from some of the online reviews that I have read, there are issues with the plug and play element of the drive in respect of having to install an SES driver and that of the Unlock software being almost impossible to remove.

Is it possible to have the drive as some would like it, just plug and play with nothing else to have to do?

Sorry, but no. At best you can format the drive to kill all the factory files inside, but the features related to encryption and the unlocking tool are firmware and hardware bound, so there’s no way to get real rid of them.

I’d suggest you to return the drive and trade it for an Elements Portable SE if you still can.
