Red 3TBs aren't recognized by Synology or iMac

Just bought a Synology DS218j NAS and two Red 3TB drives. I put the drives in the Synology, but they were not recognized, then tried each of them in an enclosure connected to a new iMac, but the Mac can only identify the type of drive and lists them as having zero KB. Can’t mount or erase and format.

It’s hard to imagine that both drives are DOA, but I also can’t think of what I’m doing wrong.
