I received my Book Essentials for Christmas in 2008 (I think).  I hooked it up and it has ben running ever since, backing 

my files up. I just had a meager crash on my computer. Now I would like to retrieve the data and can’t. Because I didn’t

register my book in the beginning the program was never setup. Is there anything that I could do? Thank you.

Unfortunately if the backup was not started using Smartware, no backup was made. If you are not sure if you started doing the backup using Smartware, you can try manually exploring the My book, if a backup was made, you should be able to find a folder with the name smartware.swstor.
