should the wdtv live always be left on? Or is it better to shut it off when not using it? Same goes with the 4tb NAS drive. I’m guessing that can be turned off when not using it.
This is strictly a matter of personal preference. I leave my Hub and NAS on all the time.

Same here. In over a year and a half with the Hub I have yet to see any negatives to this behavior.
About a year and a half for me and I have 10 1TB drives attached to my NAS and all is good
