[Q] Change root password: Is it safe?

That… Is it safe to change the root password? Or is something hard-coded somewhere and **bleep** will break loose? :S

I just don’t like the idea of having a generic password on my NAS. And I like the idea of disabling SSH even less (if not for SSH, I’d be without NAS right now…).

Thanks.

You can change it and you SHOULD change it if you wanted to reach from outside network.

to change password type:

passwd root

and then type your new password twice.

Thank you. I just didn’t want to have some “surprise”.
