Puzzling

i noticed recently that when scrolling along the thumbnails in my tv series folder in gallery view that when i got to this one particular folder (Caprica)  in the background was a synopsis of the show itself, a background picture and the genre information etc was filled in.

This does not happen for any of my other shows and i have many

i ejected the drive ,hooked up to the pc and had a look

Inside is a backdrop00.jpg generating the backdrop photo and a Caprica.xml file generating the show synopsis, as i say no other show has this info and i have no idea how they got there but i would like to have the backdrop and the xml for all my series and for my movies

i am running the latest firmware…does everybody else already have this on their player and i am behind the times, if so how can i organise this for all my folders

Hi, Just to confirm, are you saying that you can display a background picture for folders ?

All other threads say this is not possable - ( and it is not in the manual ).

Many people would like to do this, (should be a feature enabled by WD)

If we can that would be Great .

yes, when i highlight the folder without going into it, in the background is the synopsis of the tv show, there is a background picture and the genre ,runtime etc are filled in,this does not happen for any other folder and i have no idea how this happened,if you think about it though, genre, runtime, directors etc are there for a reason…they are not there to be blank, the background photo is named background00.jpg, i put an image named as such into all other tv show folders but they didnt show up…if you like i can post the xml maybe tomorrow, bedtime here in australia

Puzzling Indeed, If you have put background00.jpg in other folders and it does not show up ( I had hoped that it would ! ) then there must be something else going on. Yes if you can post the .xml file this may give a clue to what is going on. I am sure that forum members cleaver than me will have a look. Sleep well !

can somebody clever tell me how to insert an xml file and some other info into my message, tried to drag and drop with no luck

ok…here is a copy of the xml in my Caprica folder, when i high light the folder, the plot shows up in the background, also in my folder is another folder named .Caprica.backdrop and within that folder is image named backdrop00.jpg which scrolls back and forth from various angles, there is also a Caprica.metathumb file as wellas a folder.jpg for my thumbnail which does not show up for some reason, i would like to be able to edit this xml and be able to apply it to all my movie ans tv series folders so i can do what i described previously in earlier posts in this thread, i am sure this will make sense to someone smarter in computer speak than me …cheers

Hi, Have compared with my Avatar folder and the stucture is exactly the same. It includes a .avatar.backdrop folder and in that is a lot of backdropxxx.jpg files including backdrop00.jpg.

Looking at the .xml file it lookes similar in stucture to yours. Other forum members more knowledgable that I may say different.

So how you are getting a background picture for a folder is a puzzell. There is a trick to get the metadata displayed, but as yet no solution for pictur backdrops for folders.

You can edit a .xml file using Microsofts XML Notepad 2007 url :-

If you find anything else out, please update - a lot of people would be interested.

what is the trick to display metadata

What is the name of the XML file in your Caprica folder? Is there anyway you can upload it somewhere or share it from Dropbox or something?

Some one found, that if you rename the folder say “Avarta” to “Avarta.avi” even thou it is still a folder, if you put  ( Ithink) the generated .xml file at the same level, then the metadata is displayed. I tryed this once and can confirm it does work.

the name of the xml file is simply Caprica.xml, i hope this i what you are asking for…

Yeah, thanks. Will have to try what happens when I change the folder name.

i tried to change the folder name and the message i got was you must type a file name…any ideas?
