Problems with WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0 HD's

I bought a WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0 WD Caviar Black  1 TB  HD from Newegg and after installing it I could not install the OS cuz it wanted driver for the HD. Looking here for answers I found that those driver’s are pre installed on the WD HD and that they may be corrupt. So I RMA’ed it got another on and the same thing , the OS will not install with out adding drivers and according to WD there are no drivers needed for a internal HD. Anyone else having this problem?

sounds like your hard drive settings in BIOS are set to AHCI instead of IDE.

For Windows Vista, 7, or XP, IF you are going to use AHCI as the IDE Type in BIOS, you must create a driver disk and install the drivers manually on the screen where your disks are shown, by clicking the advanced link.

Yeah…it’s a major pain. I had to do it on my system in order to load the Intel Matrix drivers.

If the drives are to be used as “normal” IDE drives, Windows already has the drivers installed.
