Preventive Wear Leveling

Which WD SATA hard disk model lines (Green, Blue, Black, Red, Purple, Gold) have PWL - “Preventive Wear Leveling”? I’m talking about modern models.

> PWL - “Preventive Wear Leveling”. It’s a periodic head sweep to distribute lubricant and prevent wear in a particular place if lubricant were to build up in one spot. On many older models, this would happen maybe once a minute. But on some builds it’s maybe every 5 seconds.

I would like to know the answer to this question. my old 6tb Blues did not, seems like all 8tb+ have this?

I just called support and they said all new generation HDDs have this feature enabled. So yeah, you can stop searching…

That’s not the problem. The real problem is all freaking manufactures are having similar “features” enabled in new HDDs. So just we are technically screwed.

That’s why there are quotes surrounding it… It’s a new standard for the firmware, there is no escape from this. All manufacturer are doing it.

Toshiba has it too… I just checked latest spreadsheet. I call pretty much all major manufacturers.

Please let me know if there is any new model with 6TB+ which does not have this “feature” enabled. It’d be much appreciated.
