Portable Device is not working

I have a MyPassport 2.0 and when plugged in the light is not coming on.  However I can feel a vibration when I hold the device.

Everytime I plug it in I receive an alert that states the following messages:

“Power Surge On Hub Port”

“A USB device has malfunctioned and exceeded the power limits of its hub port. You should disconnect the device.” 

I’ve received this alert on my personal laptop and my computer at work.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds like you are using a USB HUB, be sure to connect the passport directly to the computer using the short USB cable that came with it.
