Plex App Configuration URL contains IP instead of Machine Name

I just got my PR4100 recently…great little device!

One annoying thing is that if I am in the PR4100’s configuration portal (http://WhateverYouNamedYourPR4100), if I go to the Plex App and click Configure, it opens Plex Web Configuration using the IP of the PR4100 in the URL instead of using the machine name.

Example:

192.168.0.x:32400/web/index.html (what I don’t want)

vs.

WhateverYouNamedYourPR4100:32400/web/index.html (what I want)

The reason that this is a problem is that the IP can change, etc but if I want to use a Password Manager to fill in the password, then the URL needs to stay the same. The point of the machine name is that the IP can change but the machine name is always the same. If I change the URL to the machine name manually, everything works as expected.

Anyway, this appears to be a bug on the PR4100 firmware side (as it is constructing the URL to go to).

I don’t see any “Feedback” option anywhere in the configuration software to tell WD so…I’m here. :slight_smile:

Unfortunately, no official documentation related to what you are trying to accomplish is available. It may very well be the app’s default, expected behavior.

Thanks, I opened a case with them. FYI, this is most definitely a bug, not a feature. :wink:
