Passport Essential firmware update fails as it keeps asking to unplug / rescan

I am trying to update the firmware of my Passport Essential so I can use it in Windows 7 professional (when it keeps asking me to format). Therefore, I download it Apollo 1607E Firmware Updater v2.018-v2.019 (1.0.8.6).exe but when I run it keeps asking me to unplug USB devices… But the only one I have connected is the PE!

Please advise

You cannot update Firmware on a PC that do not connect properly to your WD Passport.

First you have to find a PC that makes proper connection to your  USB device and properly usable. Then you can proceed with the FW update fro that PC. 

Besides, FW update will not fix your issue with Windows 7.

If you cannot use your device even on other PCs, you have no other choice but return and get a replacement or refund.
