Not detecting USB drive

I have a Surface Tablet and my passport is able to locate and back up the files on the C drive but the secondary drive is an SDCard. The SDCard shows up as a USB Drive in the file manager but the backup software doesn’t recognise it…
Is there a way to get the software to pick it up?
