No sound from FLAC audio in mkv files

FLAC audio files always play well, even 24bit-96Khz audio, sent over the HDMI from my WDTV-smp to my reciever but video files (mkv) with FLAC audio only show the video without any sound.  I have tried playing them by streaming fromTwonky on a WD MyBookLive, by a network share connection and on local storage.  All fail to play the sound.  The same files play fine (with audio) on my computer in VLC.

Multi-channel audio in other mkv files always plays fine from the WDTV-smp.  I have been able to make this type of file usable by re-encoding them to change the audio to a mp3 format but since they are music videos I would rather keep them in the lossless format.

Thanks for any help you can offer.
