No process is on the other end of the pipe

Western Digital ShareSpace device (approx. 8 Terrabyte)

Recently had a 2003 Active Directory Domain Controller crash (one of our two).  Since this hardware was very old, we ordered two newer servers and added 2 3008 R2 Active Directory Domain Controllers to the 2003 AD Domain.

Now whenever you try to map a drive using the AD credentials you receive “No process is on the other end of the pipe”

If you try to map the drive using the WDS Admin ID and PW it works fine…

The device is on the latest firmware  (2.3.02 with MioNet 4.3.1.12 built on Thu, 09 Feb 2012 16:56:39)

I’ve removed the device from the domain and have re-added it multiple times without an issue from the device’s point of view.  Winbind does see all users and groups and notices new users very quickly; however, cannot access the drives via AD.

Any ideas?

Anybody?

Well, guess I’ll talk to myself for a bit.

I’ve removed the system from the domain again - shut the system down

Powered the system back up and renamed it this time

Rebooted the system

Placed the system with the new name back into the domain successfully

Shut the system down

Powered the system back up and gave permissions back to users

Rebooted the system again

WHALLLAAA - Error went away and was able to map a network drive successfully

GRRR - For only a little bit - Receiving  “No process is on the other end of the pipe” again

I had a similar issue and got it solved.I have documented the solution in my blog. Click to view my solution.

Hope it works for you too.
