No firmware updates anymore?

Hi all,
I just got a new 2TB My Passport to replace my old failing passport. The new drives have a new design, where they are really thin.

I installed WD discovery with the WD utilities and security tools. However, the WD universal firmware updater doesn’t recognize this disk at all (keeps saying remove all USB devices and insert a WD drive). Has WD stopped with firmware updates for their drives, or am I missing something?

Also, the serial number on my drive is:
WX81AC9H800S

which seems non-standard to WD’s naming system of starting with “WD”. Any ideas why?

Its not a problem with the drive being detected as far as the OS is concerned. It’s a problem with drive not being recognized by the WD firmware uploader tool.

Hence my question, if you actually read - are FW updates not supported anymore?
