New WD Caviar Black is loud!

Hi!

I just bought a WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR BLACK 1TB 7200RPM SATA/600 64MB and it is very loud. It has been loud from the get go and it is very annoying. My new computer is very silent except for this hard drive. Everytime I load a website, open a programme etc. it makes a lot of noise. Is this common or should I be worried about my hard drive’s condition and if these drives are loud in general, is there anything I can do about it?

All drives make noises, some more than others. You can scan your drive for errors, just in case:

Yeah, but this is extreme. Like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. I’ll give it a shot. Thanks :smiley:
