New WD 8TB My Book wont initialize

I recently purchased a new 8TB external hard drive, I plugged it in to my laptop and it will not show up. I’ve tried using Disk Manager to initialized it but it says device not ready. Also tried admin prompts to see what was wrong and it said nothing helpful. Please help.

what operating system are you running on your laptop ?

WD external drive is not seen by Windows or Mac and data on the drive is inaccessible
