I purchased a My Password External Drive for extra storage and since I have never used an external drive before, can I run various program off of the drive or it is strictly used for storage and backup?
you could, but i wouldn’t recommend it.
if you’re using ‘Portable Apps’ then sure … but for programs, best to install to PC because programs will most likely use Windows System Files and programs will perform better from the PC’s internal hdd.
I use all my external hdd’s to store my Movies, Tv Shows. Music. Photos, Documents etc … and leave my PC’s internal hdd’s for Programs and System Software.
