Network Visibility Issues on Select Devices

Hello all,

Hopefully someone can help me with a problem I’ve been having for a few weeks now.

I have a 2tb MyBookLive which I access wirelessly through a Samsung 40d8000 TV, Sony Playstation 3, one of two MacBook Pros and wired through an old Acer Laptop.

When accessing files on any of the laptops all files are visible and play as they should, however accessing via Playstation and the TV a lot of the files, even entire folders, are not visible. For example, I have an ‘Animated’ folder under ‘Shared Videos’ which does not show up at all on these two devices, despite the fact that it used to show up and it still contains the same files which previously played on these devices. I also have a ‘Film’ folder in the same root with individual film folders contained within. Whilst ‘Film’ is visible on both devices a few of the folders within do not appear.

The only thing I have done recently which may have had an affect is that I have set the drive up for regular Time Machine backups from one of the Macs (although if this is the case I seem to be the only person online with this problem!)

I have rebooted the drive and installed the latest firmware with no resolution to/worsening of this problem.

Any other suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance.

The TV and Playstation are most likely connecting to the MBL via DLNA (Twonky media server) while the PCs are all connecting through native protocols (not DLNA.)

Log into the Twonky Server and see if the files are listed there.

If not, then use the “maintenance” menu in Twonky to rebuild the database and see if they show up then.

Thanks for the advice!

Unfortunately the database rebuild didn’t reveal any additional files. I also attempted to run both a short and full diagnostic, both of which stalled at 90% (which seems to be quite a common problem from what I can find online).

I opened up WD QuickView to attempt to rebuild the database again and thought I’d reboot the drive just in case not completing the diagnostic test might have left it in an unstable state. So I shut down the drive (under Setting>Utilities) and once it had powered down unplugged the powere lead and plugged it back in again. On doing this the drive started a rescan which revealed more files, but stalled on one folder - I removed this folder and repeated the process and hey presto - all files and folders on the drive are visible when connected through Twonky!

Hopefully this can help someone else.
