Mybook, windows scan/fix is more like windows scan/break

Title essentially sums it up, years of using a mybook, zero problems, never lost a file.  Drive is currently sitting at near maximum capacity, registering that all the data is still on it, but after mindlessly clicking to allow windows 7 to scan and fix my drive, 50-60% of the files are no longer accessable.  There are just a bunch of folder or file names that are around 32ish kilobytes with no real file type.

That is essentially where I am at currently, any input would be greatly appreciated =)

The drive could be corrupted now, but what if you try a free recovery software like testdisk, photorec and recuva?
