MyBook Essential 1TB mounts and ejects itself randomly

I have a WD MyBook Essential 1TB external hard drive installed with my Mac OSX 10.5.8.

The drive is only being used for Time Machine and my iTunes backup.

The drive will randomly unmount itself and I get an error message saying the device was improperly removed.  Hours or minutes later, it will randomly remount itself and it will work fine until it randomly ejects itself again.

Ive searched other forums but cant seem to get a clear answer as to how to remedy this issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

It appears that the data cable could be faulty or you have the drive connected to a power strip and depending on what is connected to that power strip the drive mount and dismounts by itself.

I recomend connecting the drive directly into a wall outlet and changeing the data cable.
