Just recently my drive has been squeaking as it spins and now has stopped and is not recognised by my computer. The light on the front flashes every second but I cannot hear it spinning. I have changed leads and computers but the problem lies with the unit. Model is WD1000H1C8-00. 2TB

This is not normal behavior, and seems as if the drive is not working properly. If the drive is still under warranty I recommend you get this drive replaced.

Thanks very much for the response, unfortunately it is out of warranty. I had ordered a new hard drive to back this one up - hope it isn’t too late!
