My passport won't save Lightroom copies

I am using the latest copies of Windows 10 and Lightroom classic. When importing photographs to Lightroom one has the option of saving an additional (insurance) copy to an external harddrive which I have been doing. But I got a new Dell and can’t duplicate the process. The folks at Adobe who make Lightroom claim the issue is that My passport is preventing this. While I don’t think they are right, how can I ensure that My Passport is not the problem. Do I change preferences? The file I want to save is already there on My Passport and I just want to add to it. Thanks Joel
