My Passport Ultra 2TB won't stay mounted on late Mac 2009

I have a late 2009 MacBook that I’d like to back up. I’ve already got two older external hard drives (one WD and one Seagate) that work fine. However, I just bought the WD My Passport Ultra 2TB in Feburary 2016 and it won’t stay mounted longer than 15 seconds. The lights blink, then go solid, and then turn off.
This is the third external hard drive I’ve tried in the last year and I just get so frustrated I return them. But I really need to back up my files!
My Mac specs are: 13-inch late 2009, 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Memory, running Yosemite 10.10.5

It won’t stay mounted long enough for me to format it for Mac. Please help.

Hello there,

Try to connect the drive to a different computer to see if the same happens. Also try to see if by uninstalling the drive manager can also help.
