My passport suddenly says it needs to be "formatted"

I purchased my passport ultra about 10 days ago. All week I have been transferring files (mainly family photos and videos) without any problems. Suddenly yesterday morning it says the hard drive needs to be formatted. I didn’t format it because I don’t want to lose my files. How do I get my data extracted without losing my files?

Hi packer0027,

Well you can try to connect the drive with any different computer and check if you are to access it or not. Moreover, you can run the diagnostic test on the drive using WD Tool:

I am having the same problem. ALL my photos from the last 15 years are backed up on this. They are nowhere else, but when I went to install the recommended software, I het an error message stating, “The requested software requires elevation.”
I can connect it to my digital photo frame, and everything comes up.
Please help!

Don’t format !
You can solve this by using chkdsk command!
Open Command Prompt (Run as administrator )
type chkdsk (disk symbol like c):/f
For Example:
chkdsk h:/f

faild: The type of the file system is NTFS.
could you plz help me?
