Are the My Passport drives self encrypting drives? When performing an erase with WD Utilities, are the encryption keys cycled? I own an older My Passport Essential SE, and two newer drives - Ultra/Windows, and Ultra/Mac. When I use the WD Utilities to erase the drive, and then use a hex viewer to look at the contents, only the first and last half of the drive are erased (i.e. a quick erase). So is the data still retrievable or has the encryption key been changed, rendering the data useless?
