My Passport, How to access?

Have an old My Passport, portable storage drive purchased appx 10 years ago; am looking for some critical info from 2011 that may be on it, but cannot access the drive; in fact never need to search, restore, etc, from drive until now

The drive LED light is on, indicating power(?), not wireless or RF, linked to by laptop by USB connection.

Am running Win10 on Lenovo 5i

A lot has changed over 10 years and you have not really kept aware. So I’m guessing on what might work.

Try this:

  1. Open Windows Explorer (Where drives and files are listed)

  2. Look for your “My Passport” drive and open it. It might have another name.

  3. Ooops; skip this.

  4. Open WD Backup.swstor or other folder with .swstor. Could be WD Smartware.swstor.

5.Should show a folder with the name of your PC.

  1. This is where it gets tricky. For recent software it would show a long folder name with random characters. Open it. If more folders, look for the one with random characters.

  2. You might find a couple of folders and some files. Ignore “History” Look for one called Volume[random characters]. Open it. You now should see all the folders copied from your PC. Hunt around for your missing file and try to copy to your PC.

But since it is an old drive There may be some more steps. Experiment.

Best I can offer. Good luck.

Thanks much, will try when I have a couple of hours to
spare…lol…(instead of crying over my probable errors in protecting
critical information.)
