I can’t open my passport external hardisk, and it cannot be detected at disk management as well. However, on the safety remove part, I can see my hd is on G drive, but I can’t remove it. Therefore, I had tried to check disk on command prompt, but it’s freezing too.
I have tried with:
different cable
other pc and laptop
update with latest firmware
try to detect my hd with wd smartware
its still the same, freezing!!! unless i unplug the hd.
When you access the drive in Disk Management is the drive allocated or unallocated? For allocated you should see a blue bar next to the drive letter, for unallocated the bar will be black.
Unfortunately, I can’t even see whether it is allocated or not because it keeps connecting to visual disk service when I try to access in Disk Management. I dunno how long will it takes to connect, never successed before.
However, if I open up Disk Management before plug in hardisk, I can see my drive was allocated. But it doesn’t allowed to change drive path unless I rescan disk, and it will not be responding when I rescan disk.
Well, in this case my only suggestion for you is to delete the volume and reformat the drive (keep in mind this will delete all the data on the drive, Be sure to back up any files that you want to save to a different location before you begin.)
To delete a partition
Open Computer Management by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Computer Management. If you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
In the left pane, under Storage, click Disk Management.
Right-click the volume, such as a partition or logical drive, that you want to delete, and then click Delete Volume.
