I have a new computer with USB 3.0 but my WD External HD Elite uses 2.o USB I cannot get in how do i fix this

USB 3.0 is a backward compatible i.e. USB 3.0 port supports USB 2.0 devices but they are held to the 2.0 limitations of transfer rates and power.

Thanks my problem is that when i attache the external drive to my computer using the USB cable provided my computer will not read the drive gives an error message saying USB 2,0 not compatible so my question is do i just need a new cable
